Northgard brings out a new clan and talks of future release!

northgard_header.jpg

Northgard is a real time strategy game that really makes you roll with the punches as you colonize territory in some very harsh lands Viking lands. Between enemy invasions, harsh winters, or rats invading your food stores - you'll have to think about every decision carefully.

You'll start the game with one of your hardest choices - a clan. Each clan has specific bonuses (whether it be to military, resource gathering or currency) which can make or break you, depending on your strategy. From there, you have to colonize the land and build both resource-gathering buildings, as well as military establishments to defend yourself from monsters or rivals. Depending on your victory conditions, you may be after conquest, fame, or lore, so plan appropriately.

A new clan unlocked with the most recent update, the Clan of the Boar, features some very strong starting bonuses. Instead of having a Healer's Hut, it will be called the Mender's Hut, and when the services of the Mender are not required, they can produce +2 Lore. This is extremely helpful for those who might not be waging a fight constantly and want to go after some lore bonuses (especially if that's the victory condition!). One of the other major benefits of this clan is the Under The Stars perk, where you get +2 to max population for each additional tile. More people may mean more consumption, but it also means more workers and warriors, so this is a great advantage.

The developers also took some time to speak about what they plan for updates in the coming months. In December, they will be introducing dedicated servers for multiplayer to alleviate some issues players had with lag and disconnections. They'll also be adding in some features to make multiplayer more enjoyable for everyone (replacing a lost player with an AI) and scaled appropriately (adjusting difficulty for each AI). For players who enjoy the solitary environment, fear not! A long awaited piece of the game is being brought in January 2018 in the form of a campaign mode. Players will be in the boots of a Viking warchief with hopes of colonizing Northgard.

With these two major updates coming, the developers spoke about a full release being (optimistically) placed around February-March. This release is not set in stone, but the developers plan on tackling every bug in between the next few updates to make sure the game is polished and ready for players to take head on.

'GRID Autosport' is Now Available on the US App Store and Many Other Regions

On Friday, GRID Autosport [$9.99] soft launched in New Zealand, which seemed a little odd as you don't typically see full-blown premium games soft launch. However, after fiddling around a bit with the game, which just hit the US App Store this afternoon, it seems like there's a pretty complicated post-install download process they were likely testing out. The game itself is a 4GB download from the App Store, then on first launch you're given the prompt to download additional content and high resolution textures. These are delivered as free IAP, and together they're around 2GB, bringing the total installed size of GRID Autosport to just under 6GB in total on my iPhone X.

I've been fiddling around for a bit in the game, and it's unbelievably impressive- Making the game's controversial hardware requirements totally make sense. Basically, you're going to need an iPhone 7 or newer, and you're probably going to want to play with a battery pack or outlet nearby as this game is a battery drain and a half. I've only played a few races, but I'm blown away by the depth this game has to offer. It's not often that I find myself in mobile games that have so much content, so many cars, and so many different things you can do that it's just overwhelming.

Hell, even the races themselves feel wonderfully foreign as they're long, which is a very welcome change from all the bite-sized freemium racers we've seen take over the App Store. The other side of the coin on this is that if you're used to mindless racers like CSR or similar, you're going to be overwhelmed by the difficulty of GRID Autosport, even playing on the lowest difficulty. This is a real deal racing simulator, and plays like it.

We've got a thread in our forums that has been filling up with first impressions, which have largely been positive. We'll have a full review up soon, but in the meantime if you've been hungry for a "real" racing game on the App Store, and you've got an iPhone 7 or newer, GRID Autosport is a game you need to download right away.

Amazon has the best Nintendo Switch deal on Cyber Monday

Black Friday 2017 may have come and gone but Amazon is resurrecting one of this year's very best deals one last time. Cyber Monday is the unfortunately named follow-up event to Black Friday and launches tomorrow, Monday 27th November. It brings with it a fresh set of bundles and price cuts on all sorts of products, but most notably is a new version of Amazon's best-selling Nintendo Switch offer.

We previously reported on Amazon's Black Friday offer of a Nintendo Switch console with Super Mario Odyssey for just £279.99, a deal that sold out swiftly. It then returned at 3 pm on the day itself, and sold out again in a little under three minutes.

Turns out, Amazon's got one last trick up its sleeve - a Cyber Monday Switch lightning deal bundle, set to go live at 10 am. This time, the bundle consists of a Nintendo Switch (Neon) console along with boxed copies of Super Mario Odyssey and Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, for £299 altogether. If you missed out on the last two bundles, you're going to want to click the link below and camp out there for 10 am. You can close the tab around, oh, four minutes later if previous performance is anything to go by. We're confident that this will be the best deal you'll find tomorrow - nobody else came close to matching the last one.
