Kobolds & Catacombs Card Reveals, Recruit Mechanic, 'Overwatch' Deathknights, and More 'Hearthstone' Weekly News in 'Touchstone' #118

Hello everyone and welcome to another Touchstone Tavern, our weekly roundup of the best news stories and videos from the world of Hearthstone [Free]. As you would expect, last week was all about the upcoming Kobolds & Catacombs expansion, so we've got plenty of stories and videos about the latest card reveals and what they might mean for the game. There's also more talk about Dungeon Runs and the Recruit mechanic, a story on possibly the most powerful card ever, and plenty of video reviews. And, just to break from the expansion monotony, we have a story about all the Overwatch heroes turned into Deathknight cards. Enjoy.

TouchArcade and Value City Reveal Three Shaman Cards

If you want to see some cool Shaman cards that are all about Totems, check out our reveal of three Kobolds & Catacombs cards. The reveal took place in a video podcast alongside Value City. The cards themselves are great for those stubborn enough to build totem decks, so check out the story here and the video below.

Learn More About the Recruit Mechanic

If you're still unsure about Recruit, the new mechanic coming in the upcoming expansion, read this story. The writer talked to Peter Whalen and Dave Kosak about Recruit and got some interesting information out of that chat. The story talks about Recruit and deckbuilding, how it plays out in different classes, and more. The story also has an exclusive video on Dungeon Run that's also worth watching.

Silver Vanguard Reveal

Would you like an expensive, low-stat minion with a strong Deathrattle? If yes, Silver Vanguard is for you. This 7-cost 3/3 minion Recruits an 8-cost minion once it perishes. This reveal article goes into a lot of detail about Silver Vanguard's potential and how Recruit might play out. What do you think of Silver Vanguard?

Paladin Legendary Unveiled

Each class will receive a Legendary minion and a Legendary weapon, and Lynessa Sunsorrow is the Legendary Paladin minion. This 7-cost 1/1 minion has a Battlecry "Cast each spell you cast on your minions this game on this one." As you can imagine, it's very easy to boost this Legendary to crazy heights if you have played the right spells before casting it. Read more about this Legendary here.

Some of the New Legendary Weapons Have Voice Lines

In this article, Ben Thompson, Hearthstone Lead Artist, reveals that some of the Weapons we are getting in the next expansion have things to say once played. Those weapons have death lines, lines for when they come into the game, and lines when they are used. Not all weapons have those lines, but those who do will be fun to play with. Read the whole story here.

Is This 3/3 Dragon One of the Most Powerful Cards Ever?

Duskbreaker is a 4-mana 3/3 Priest Dragon that deals 3 damage to all other minions if you're holding a Dragon, and many players think this card is one of the most powerful cards in the game ever. It can clear up the board and give you a free 3/3 body on the board, a combination that can put you in the driving seat. The writer goes into more details about why many are fearing Duskbreaker, and you can read all that here.

Grand Archivist Brings More RNG to the Game

As is usually the case, each new expansion brings along some cards with crazy RNG, and Grand Archivist is one of those cards. This 8-mana 4/7 card casts a spell from deck on random targets at the end of your turn. While it's a very expensive card for the stats, it can bring all kinds of crazy RNG to the game, and that's always fun. Read more about Grand Archivist here.

Paladin and Mage Spellstones Unveiled

Spellstones are a new kind of card coming to the game, and this week we got to see the Paladin and Mage ones. The Mage Spellstone adds a random Mage spell to your hand and gets upgraded when you play two Elementals. The Paladin one summons one 2/2 minion with Taunt and gets upgraded when you restore 3 Health. The writer thinks the Paladin one has more potential. Are you sold on the Spellstones?

Shaman Legendary Grumble, Worldshaker Makes Minions Cheap

Grumble, Worldshaker, the new Shaman Legendary, sounds like a fun card to play because it returns all your minions to your hand when played and drops their cost to 1. The writer of this article sees this card as having massive possibilities. While it's early to know it's power, I do like the art on it. Check out the whole story here.

New Priest Legendary Gives Two Turns to Everyone

Now, this is a fun idea. Temporus, the new Priest Legendary, lets your opponent have two turns in a row and then you take two turns. Isn't that fun? Whether it will be strong or not remains to be seen, and you could easily lose before you get a chance to play those two turns. But still, this is a fun Legendary. Head here to read the whole story.

Check Out These Overwatch Deathknights

If you ever wondered how Overatch heroes would look as Deathknights, look no further than this reddit post. You can see Mercy and her Caduceus Staff, Ana, and all the other Overwatch heroes as Deathknights here, and it's definitely worth checking it out if you like Overwatch.

KO_OP Mode's Stylish Puzzler 'GNOG' Launching on iOS Tomorrow

Just prior to its release on Playstation 4 and Playstation VR in early May, Montreal based developer KO_OP Mode and publisher Double Fine announced that their extremely stylish and crazy puzzler GNOG would also be arriving on Steam and mobile later in the year. GNOG is an escape room type of puzzle game that has you poking and prodding at the insides of a robot's head in order to free the tiny person trapped inside. It's definitely a wacky premise, but for those who enjoyed games like The Room but craved a bit more surreality and some kicking tunes, GNOG looked to offer exactly that. While KO_OP had to deliver a bit of bad news on Twitter today announcing a delay to the Steam version of GNOG, they simultaneously delivered some good news by announcing that the iOS version is launching tomorrow! Here is the launch trailer for the Playstation version so you can get an idea of GNOG's amazing style.

While there obviously isn't any VR support in the iOS version, there will be support for an augmented reality mode so you can do some puzzle box solving semi in the real world. Mostly though I just feel that GNOG is the exact type of game that feels best on a touchscreen as you poke, push, pull, and otherwise manipulate the various elements of each puzzle in search of a solution. It really makes it a more personal experience when you can directly touch a game and watch the effects. While KO_OP says the iOS release is tomorrow, most of us that live in the world of the digital App Store know that "tomorrow" could mean any time in the next 5 minutes or the next 24 hours. Once we see GNOG live in the App Store though we'll definitely give you a heads up.

Super Skelemania Is A Metroidvania Of Using Your Bony Head

ss_1d3c099f0e7061a9c3090d2d36ea19010cd8e904.1920x1080.jpg

Super Skelemania is all about using your head - using it like a battering ram, using it to smack enemies over the head with a headbutt, or using it to bowl your way through tight spaces. Expect to find many uses for your skull as you work your way through this single-session Metroidvania, finding fun secrets, gaining new powers, and clocking things with your cranium.

Super Skelemania offers some lighthearted action and exploration with its skinless protagonist. The skeleton hero doesn't know why it's on this oddball planet, but since they're here, they may as well go exploring through the game's five underground areas, poking around for secrets and beating up on bosses while trying not to die...again.

It's the powers that add a delightful goofiness. Double jumping and other typical Metroidvania powers are in place, but being able to just smack an enemy with your skeletal head, bowl them over by charging with your skull, or collapsing your body into your head and bowling the whole thing through low areas adds some fun, skeleton-specific powers that play up the undead charm of the protagonist.

Super Skelemania is available for $9.99 on Itch.io, GameJolt, and Steam. For more information on the game and developer Ben Allen, you can follow them on YouTube and Twitter.

'Neverending Nightmares', the Psychological Horror Game, Is Coming to Mobile this Wednesday

Those who enjoy psychological horror should keep an eye on Neverending Nightmares, the game inspired by its creator's struggles with depression and OCD that's coming to mobile this Wednesday. In this game, you play as Thomas, a man who awakens from a terrible nightmare only to realize that he hasn't really awaken and that he's still trapped in that nightmare. As in the case of every nightmare, things go from bad to worse, and worse in this case is pretty, pretty bad. As you can see from the trailer, Thomas is hunted by all kinds of horrifying creatures, which are to a degree manifestations of his own psychological state.

The game uses a dynamic lighting system that makes darkness matter and makes the game even scarier. You should play the game in the dark with headphones on just for that. And Neverending Nightmares has three different endings, which should make it worth playing again, provided you don't mind the horror of it all. The game has very good reviews on Steam, and overall it was well received on PC, although many note that it isn't too long. If you're looking for a horror game to play on your mobile device, check out Neverending Nightmares, coming Wednesday, November 29th.

Prison Architect's Escape Mode is coming to console next year

Prison Architect's Escape Mode is coming to Xbox One and PS4 next year as paid DLC.

Escape Mode has been part of Prison Architect on PC since 2015, and completely flips the game's core prison building and management premise on its head. In Escape Mode, your task isn't to construct the most secure prison possible; instead, you take on the role of an inmate and must work to escape an existing prison.

According to Double Eleven, the team responsible for porting Prison Architect to PS4 and Xbox One, Escape Mode was initially omitted from the console version as it wasn't considered a core game mode during the porting process.

'Subway Surfers' TV Series Art Revealed, Looks Pretty Good

Subway Surfers [Free], Kiloo's hugely successful game that has apparently been downloaded on one in four smartphones in the world, is becoming a TV series, and today we got to see some of that series' art. The animated series will premiere in summer 2018 with 10 5-minute episodes that will be followed by a longer series that will have 22-minute episodes. The series will take place in Subway City and will, of course, feature the characters from the game. Those characters will embark on all kinds of adventures that will involve street surfing, probably. I'm curious to see if the stories will tie into game events; I would expect some kind of cross-promotion to happen once the TV series releases.

Given how successful Subway Surfers is (it has over 1.5 billion downloads and is often among the most downloaded games of the year), I expect the TV series to be very successful as well. There's already a huge audience ready for more Subway Surfers, so I would be amazed if the TV series doesn't do well and doesn't lead to more episodes. Overall, a great move by SYBO and Kiloo that should help the game grow even more while also helping it expand to other media.
